Greetings
We arrived in N’Djamena, Chad, 11:00 PM Sunday night, the 30th. After our
30 hour journey. A good friend picked us up and we were in bed by midnight.
But, I’ll back up just a pinch. Had a great Christmas with the parents,
kids and grand kids. The last few days were incredibly busy. People were so
generous to us. We received a lot of gifts to take back to Africa with us. Plus
we had last minute shopping for many items we can not find here in Chad. So we
had a very long evening of packing, weighting, unpacking, repacking,
re weighting, shifting items from one bag to another.
We flew from Charlotte, NC to Newark, NJ. We had one hour till our next
flight from a different terminal. You never know how these transfers will go.
This one went great! When we got to the waiting area, we still had almost an
hour till departure. No idea how that happened. Our overnight trip from Newark
to Paris went well, arriving very tired, in Paris at 7:30 AM. We ended up
searching for two hours and thru three terminals till we finally found someone
who could help us with the next legs boarding pass. It’s a BIG place.
Six hours later we boarded and it was an uneventful flight and we landed in
Chad at 11:00 PM.
Unpacked the 31st thru the 1st, with a few naps thrown in for good
measure. (Jet lag) Both of us started work on the 2nd. Its going to be hard to
work normal hours. Why is that? Are we both such workaholics? Must be, we both
got several pep talks today about the virtues of not over working and lasting
longer. We know they are right, its just our follow thru up to this point hasn’t
been too successful. Its not as easy as it sounds. Keep praying for us thick
headed ones.
We both quit work at 5:00 PM today (Wednesday the 2nd) and did an hour DVD
exorcise program we brought back with us. Good start hay?
The Chad director here presented a short video of the two bible dedications
that happened here in Nov. The beginning of the end of 20 years of linguistic,
translation and literacy work in those two people groups. Lots more to go. SIL
will be here for a long time.
