Our July 2010 Newsletter

July 2010

The Wycliffe Retirement facility is located in Catalina, AZ just to the north of Tucson. It is just two miles from the SIL Mexico branch office, where the retirees meet weekly for updates and prayer, get help with their computers and finances. Most of the retirees have worked in Mexico, but that is not a requirement. Any retired Wycliffe member is welcome. It has 17 units and a community center where my (Jim’s) new office is located. In this new position I will make sure the Wycliffe retirees living there are well taken care of, that bills are paid and all of the grounds and facilities are maintained. In the winter months I’ll have the “Snow Bird” volunteers to help with the labor.

Heroes of the Faith

Our older retiring missionaries are heroes of the faith. Hebrews 13:7 (The Message) says, “Appreciate your pastoral leaders (Wycliffe missionaries) who gave you (and millions of others) the Word of God. Take a good look at the way they live, and let their faithfulness instruct you, as well as their truthfulness.” I’m excited and honored to serve them and help provide an economical and comfortable place for them to “finish well” in their missionary journey.

God is Faithful!

Since our last letter where we told of my (Jim’s) new assignment as manager to the Wycliffe Mt. Vista Retirement Facility, we have seen God provide. At that time we were at 76% and now we are at 84% of our needed financial support. Because Wycliffe requires every member to be at 100% of their ministry quota before starting I have been working full time on building up our partnership team. Judy and I have enjoyed meeting with many of you to tell about this and invite you to join our team. We are excited to see the funds coming in. We are also thankful for a Wycliffe couple from Idaho who is stepping in to fill this critical roll until Sept 1.

Double your investment

We have included an option for Employer Match Giving which several partners have done over the years. It’s a simple way to double your support of Bible translation. There are thousands of employers who do this! See pages 3 and 4 for more information.

A Partners View (From one of our long term supporters)

My husband Larry and I have been part of the support team for Jim and Judy since 1986. I can say that our lives have been enriched and ourof the world and missions has grown through this wonderful adventure with them. In recent years, Jim’s assignment with Wycliffe as a recruiter has not been enjoyable for him. We have watched Jim persevere in this job and we grew in our appreciation for a fellow believer who was faithful in the “smaller” task our father Godof him. Now we are excited for the “large” task he has been asked to do. Oh what a wonderful fit this new job is for Jim.

Remind me again, why is Jim doing this new job?

For the past two years we have been praying about going to Chad, in north central Africa. Last fall the personnel office of Chad contacted me to see if I might be interested in coming to serve as Facilities Maintenance Manager. About that same time, a critical job as Facilities Manager for the retirement apartments came up in Tucson. God had a plan!

By doing this Tucson job, I’ll be fulfilling a critical Wycliffe need until a long-term replacement can be found and I’ll be getting current in my maintenance abilities, which will better prepare me to serve in Chad. Also during this period we’ll have time to get our French language back up to par and also some Arabic. Since December we have been able to practice our French with some African refugees in Tucson and soon hope to learn some Arabic.

Lord willing, we hope to be leaving for Chad, Africa the later half of 2012.

Judy's Recruitment Corner

God is calling. I’ve met with many wonderful gals this spring. Many I met at a missions Bible study called Pathways. It takes time to build relationships with them and assist them in discovering where they can serve. I am the only recruiter in AZ now so please continue to pray as I meet with interested people.

Thanks for praying for the five recruits who were building their partnership teams in preparation for serving. Mark and Jessica Spangler are at 90%, Jason and Kari Diller are at 80%, and Amy Evers is at 100%. Pray for an applicant, Alisha, who is at the CANIL school at Trinity Western in Langley VC this summer. It is a summer linguistic program.

Thank You Again!

You are an invaluable part of the team transforming lives through Bible Translation. We can’t thank you enough.

Matching Gifts Programs

What is a Matching Gifts Program?

A matching gifts program is a benefit many companies offer in which the company matches the contributions of their employees to certain charitable organizations. This benefit may also be available to retired employees, part-time employees and board members. Over a thousand companies have matching gifts programs.

What is the procedure?

Typically, the employee/donor obtains a matching gift form from their employer, completes it, and sends it to Wycliffe with their check made out to Wycliffe or SIL as appropriate. (Both ways work for the McCabe’s) Wycliffe will certify that the gift has been received, and they return the form to the company for the match.

Will all companies match gifts made to Wycliffe?

Some companies will not match gifts made to Wycliffe, but they will match gifts made to SIL. Charitable organizations that may receive matching gifts typically include educational and other non-profit organizations, and less commonly, organizations with a religious mission. Therefore, gifts may be made to SIL (educational non-profit) instead of Wycliffe—simply note its for Jim and Judy McCabe’s ministry as you normally would. It is important that the check for an SIL gift be made out to SIL and that the matching gift form be completed with consistent information (SIL name, tax ID number, and address).

How can ministry partners know whether gifts to Wycliffe or SIL will be matched?

In some instances the guidelines may be unclear, and the only means of determining with certainty whether a match is possible will be for the employee (donor) to submit their companies application to Wycliffe or SIL in conjunction with a contribution.

The tax ID number’s (TIN): Wycliffe # is 95-1831097. SIL International # 75-1840827.

Here are the appropriate addresses to use for corporate matching gift’s.
