Our "new" Sonoran desert, inside our compound.  We won't show you much of it this time, mostly our new home and a little of our local environment.

The living room, looking west. The door is a side door out to a communal walkway. The stick on the wall is to hang decorations, art, calendars from. They are concrete walls, somewhat difficult to put nails into.

Living room, left is west wall, right is north. A local made decorative storage and display cabinet. Then there is our dining room table.

Living room transiting into dining room. Doorway on left is into hallway, leading to toilet room, shower room and bed room. Doorway on the right is into kitchen.

East wall on left, south wall on right, with main entry door. The door curtains signal if we are open to visitors. Curtains open, we want visitors. Curtains closed, we do not. Not a bad system for apartment life.

The bed room with poles for the mosquito net, (which we don't have yet). Need to get one soon. The mosquito's are more active than I thought they would be. That's a window with curtains on the right side of the photo.

Back in the living room, looking at the toilet room and kitchen. The switches on the wall control over head fluorescent lights, a wall sconce, and two over head fans. On the far left are switches for the swamp cooler. One big cooler for four apartments. We have the only switch. I can see some interesting challenges coming from this.

More kitchen... looking east. Propane stove that we light with a match. Jim's first light he lost much of the hair on his right hand. There is a small learning curve here.

Right outside out door looking west. Lots of Chadian made pots with plants. A lot of effort has been made to create a nice green oasis for us. A big difference from out side our walls.

 "The Shop" , looking from our front door, where Jim will be a lot of the time. The six doors on the side are personal storage areas for traveling workers, who spend, some time here and time in the village. The big framework is the water tower. Jim will have an office somewhere as well. It may be attached to our apartment (close to shop) or in the administration building, (farther from shop). One of our many requests for you to take to our father. Another is about our French, we still have a big learning curve here as well. That we quickly build personal relationships with the locals.  Personal security as we are out and about. Sensitivity to cultural norms. Not makeing radical changes in how things are done, just becasue its how I'm use to doing things. For our kids while we are away.
